JULY FOURTH:
Patriotic Rice Krispies

 

 

 

Need a quick and easy dessert idea for your 4th of July get together? We have it for you here! Rice Krispie Treats are perfect for a last minute dessert, not too heavy on the tummy, and always a huge hit with the kiddos! This recipe takes about 15 minutes total including decoration – you can’t beat that!

 

Ingredients

3 T Unsalted Butter

10 oz. Package Marshmallows

6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal

16 oz. Betty Crocker Vanilla Frosting

Patriotic Sprinkles

 

Supplies

Nonstick Deep Skillet

Silicone Spatula

Large Mixing Bowl

13” x 9” x 2” Pan

Wax Paper

1 Plastic Sandwich Bag

Scissors

 

 

Directions

Melt the butter over low heat in a deep skillet, or large saucepan. Once butter is melted, add entire bag of marshmallows and stir frequently with silicone spatula until all marshmallows are melted. Remove from heat.

 

In a large mixing bowl add 2 cups Rice Krispies cereal and roughly 1/3 of melted marshmallows. Continue with two more layers of 2 cups cereal and 1/3 melted marshmallows until all melted marshmallows and 6 cups of cereal have been added. This layering technique makes coating the cereal with the melted marshmallows much easier. Stir with silicone spatula until well coated.

 

Line 13” x 9” x 2” pan with wax paper. Pour rice krispies into pan and press with spoon or more wax paper.

 

TIP: You can coat the pan with cooking spray or butter, but I find wax paper easiest when kids are involved. The wax paper prevents any sticking and helps to protect your pan from scratches when trying to cut the sticky rice krispies!

 

 

Decorating

Let the rice krispies cool for a minute to make sure the frosting does not melt when you decorate. Once cooled, add a spoonful of vanilla frosting into the corner of a sandwich bag and twist the bag at the top of the frosting. Press out air, seal the bag, and snip off the corner of the bag where the frosting is located. Be careful not to snip a large chunk off the corner of the bag, a tiny snip will suffice. Slowly squeeze the bag at the top of the frosting while holding the twist and keep a steady pressure while decorating. I chose to do a simple zig-zag pattern beginning and ending in opposite corners. Feel free to get creative with it!

 

After your finished with the frosting grab some patriotic sprinkles and go crazy! You can never have too many sprinkles! 🙂
